Lithium battery ocean shipping is subject to the restrictions and requirements of version 39-18 of IMDG Code of IMO (International Maritime Organization).
1. For batteries ≤ 100wh or cells ≤ 20wh:
◆ PI 965 Section IB of lithium batteries (limited to maximum of 30% SoC), PI 966 Section II of lithium batteries packed with equipment, or PI 967 Section II of lithium batteries contained in equipment.
◆ According to the SP188 in IMDG 39-18 edition, it can be transported as general goods.
◆ The package has passed the drop tests of 1.2 meters.
◆ Requirements for outer package label: lithium battery label.
◆ Pallets shall be used for loading and protection of packages with a single piece of more than 12kg
2. For batteries > 100wh or cells > 20wh:
◆ PI 965 Section IA of lithium batteries (limited to maximum of 30% SoC), PI 966 Section I of lithium batteries packed with equipment, or PI 967 Section I of lithium batteries contained in equipment.
◆ Ocean shipping of large lithium battery products: such as distributed photovoltaic energy storage boxes, energy storage cabinets, power battery systems, large mobile energy storage power stations, electric bike, scrubber machines, mobile robots, sprayers, and solar energy systems.
◆ Basic requirements:
① Document requirements: MSDS, UN38.3, Certification for Safe Transport of goods and dangerous package certificate.
② Declaration of dangerous goods
③ PI 965 section I and PI 966 section I shall be packaged with UN PG II
④ PI 967 section I, PI 967 section II and PI966 Section II can be packed in normal packaging.
⑤ Post the label of class 9 dangerous goods(Diamond Lable), products, shipper and consignee information.
⑥ Dangerous goods in the container shall be reinforced for going to the EU or US
⑦ Class 9 dangerous goods label shall be posted at the specified position around the container.
